Such a fantastic gospel text for this past Sunday, and such a fantastic prelude to Palm Sunday and Holy Week. In my own setting, I had planned to have this Chris Tomlin song accompanied by liturgical dance:
I also had the Gospel proclaimed as a sort of reader’s theater piece. Our presiding minister read the lines for Jesus, the assisting minister read the part of the “narrator,” and the congregation read other parts: the women read the lines for Mary and Martha, the men read the lines for the disciples, etc. Each of these gospel texts in Lent this year lend themselves very well to some sort of dramatic presentation, as they are all very much about personal encounters with Jesus.
Have you gone outside the box for worship this Lent? What has been effective in your own setting? What works in your congregation? What doesn’t work?
